Five companies illegally assigned to this battalion since they had been raised for Local and Special Service and were then serving as a part of the 21st Infantry Battalion ("Pound Gap Battalion").
Company G organized on March 27, 1862.
Companies H, I, and K organized on April 2-3, 1862.
Reorganized with only nine companies during May 1862.
1st Company F disbanded in about May 1862.
Company K became the 2nd Company I in about May 1862.
1st Company I became 2nd Company F in about May 1862.
Surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
