Three of the original companies had served in the 3rd Regiment, Floyd's Brigade, which had failed to complete its organization.
Was also known as the 1st Infantry Battalion.
Reorganized on May 21, 1862.
Increased to eight companies by April 1863.
Disbanded at Christianburg, Virginia on April 12, 1865, by Brig. Gen. John Echols, commanding the Department of Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee.
