Given its official designation as the 15th Infantry Regiment on June 1, 1861, per G.O. #24, Headquarters Virginia Forces.
Transferred to Confederate service on July 1, 1861.
Companies F and K refused to reorganize and were disbanded on June 20, 1862, per S.O. #142, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.
Regiments reorganized with eight companies on April 25, 1862.
