Organized with four companies in June 1861.
Merged into the 25th Infantry Regiment on May 1, 1862, by order of Brig. Gen. Edward Johnson.
Consolidation declared illegal by the War Department, and Lt. Col. Hansborough ordered to recognize the battalion on November 4, 1862, per S.O. #258, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.
He failed to comply with the order.
It was revoked, and the merger with the 25th Infantry Regiment was confirmed on February 28, 1863, per S.O. #50, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.
