Organized by the conversion of 1st Company G, 14th Infantry Regiment, to artillery service on May 1, 1862.
Served as Company G (subsequently Company C), 1st Artillery Regiment, and later as Company C, 1st Artillery Battalion, until January 18, 1865.
Then served independently.
Armed with two 12-lb. Napoleans on June 24, 1862.
There was some consideration in October 1862 of either returning the company to infantry service or relieving the officers and distributing the enlisted men to the other batteries of the 1st Artillery Regiment.
Neither appears to have been carried out.
Armed with four 12-lb. Napoleans on December 28, 1864.
Surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
