Organized for three years or the war in Fauquier County on March 10, 1862.
Reorganized on April 16, 1862.
Assisigned as 1st Company A, 12th Artillery Battalion, on May 15, 1862, per S.O. #112, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.
However, it soon became an independent battery again.
Armed with one 12-lb. Howitzer, one 12-lb. Napoleon, and two 6-lb. Smoothbores in August and September 1862.
Armed with two 12-lb. Howitzers and two 12-lb. Napoleons on July 1-3, 1863.
Armed with two 12-lb. Napoleons on December 28, 1864.
Surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
