Organized by the conversion of 1st Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, to artillery service upon its reorganization on May 8, 1862.
At that time, it was attached to the 1st Artillery Regiment and later to the 1st Artillery Battalion.
Armed with two 12-lb. Howitzers and two 6-lb. Smoothbores from August to October 17, 1862.
Armed with two 3-inch Rifles and two 12-lb. Napoleons on July 1-3, 1863.
Surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
