Organized for one year by the division of the Norfolk "Light Artillery Blues" on June 8, 1861.
Reorganized for the war on March 26, 1862.
Armed with one 3-inch Rifle, one 10-lb. Parrott, and two 6-lb. Smoothbores in August and September 1862.
Portsmouth Light Artillery Battery disbanded and some of the men transferred to this battery on October 4, 1862, per S.O. #209, Headquarters, Army of Northern Virginia.
Armed with one 3-inch Rifle, one 10-lb. Parrott, and two 12-lb. Napoleons on July 1-3, 1863.
Armed with four 12-lb. Napoleons on December 28, 1864.
Captured as part of Walker's artillery column on April 8, 1865.
