Organized for the war in Albemarle County on March 19, 1862.
Assigned as 2nd Company A, 12th Light Artillery Battalion, prior to April 30, 1863.
Armed with four 12-lb. Napoleans on December 28, 1864.
Also manned two 8-inch Mortars, seven 12-lb. Mortars and five 24-lb. Coehorn Mortars on December 30, 1864.
Again became an independent unit on January 11, 1865, per S.O. #8, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office.
Captured as part of Walker's artillery column on April 8, 1865.
