Unit History

Organized by the consolidation of the 3rd and 28th Cavalry Regiments and part of the 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment in early 1865.
The six Mississippi companies of the 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment were consolidated into two companies and assigned as Companies C and H of this regiment.
Surrendered by Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor, commanding the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865.
