However, the Official Records of the War of the Rebellion relate the following. Byrne’s Battery served at Shiloh and Murfreesboro. It was at one time in the 2nd Brigade, Morgan’s Division, Wheeler’s Cavalry Corps, Army of Tennessee.
The Official Records attest to the bravery and good service of both the battery and its commander, Capt. Byrne. The battery participated in Morgan’s Kentucky Raid, during which, it was charged in a courmartial, that Capt. Edward P. Byrne participated in a bank robbery. Byrne was, at that time, Morgan’s Chief of Artillery.
The results of that courtmarial are not reported in the Official Records. The battery was sometimes known as the Kentucky Battery and sometimes as the Mississippi Battery.
