Brief History
Organized with six companies on 28 August 1862. It was assigned to the Dept. of Mississippi and East Louisiana (December 1862-June 1863) and first served as scouts and pickets. With about 250 men, it fought at the battle of King's Creek under Gen'l Daniel Ruggles. It was consolidated with the 15th Cavalry Battalion, Partisan Rangers on 8 June 1863 to form the 56th Cavalry Regiment, Partisan Rangers.
